Why do we fundraise?
POPS voluntary dues of $30/family supports various activities and enrichment opportunities for the orchestra program. In addition, $50/box raised through the candy fund raiser provides additional funding sources, again to support various activities and enrichment. Both funding sources are deposited into a 501c3 non-profit account. POPS anticipates the following expenditures for 2009-2010:
- Incidental expenditures for concert receptions.
- Orchestra lunches (one/orchestra) and end of year banquet.
- Music rentals for concerto competition.
- Sectional instructors, as needed/requested.
- Guest conductors, as needed/requested.
- Print costs of orchestra directory.
- Small discretionary account for director to make emergency purchases (ie instrument repair, spare strings, etc.)
- Guest artist Bobby Yang and band members
- Scholarships for students to receive private lessons (Caroline Tarzia Fund)
- Annual POPS financial audit
- Elizabeth A. H. Green Instrument Fund
Lastly, POPS approved fund raising this year to provide support for orchestral travel in 2010-2011. Whether or not to travel is at the discretion of the director; however, traditionally the audition ensembles have traveled every other year with 2010-2011 anticipated to be a designated travel year. Philharmonia may be provided with a travel opportunities as well if there is an appropriate educational opportunity available.
